In Memory

This has been a sad week. A good friend of our family, Brad Gerrard was brutally murdered Saturday night. Here is a link to one of the news stories and another one. Our community is in total shock. Brad was a good person. He was our son's scout leader. They would do amazing things like landscape design, photography and play cool games. Brad loved his family more than anything else. His wife has numerous health problems and needed lots of care. He would work all night, drive his wife to school and wait there with her while caring for their son. He would come home and sleep for a few hours and head to work. My last memory of Brad is carrying his wife Susie on his back to the car after she got very ill at the park. No complaints, just uncompromising love. Their son was the most adored and loved toddler that I have ever seen. We used to joke about the way they would point out everything he did and ohhhh and awwww about it. It was so sweet.

It is all gone now. In a matter of seconds, someone has stolen a husband. Someone has taken away a father. Someone has robbed us of a friend. Why? It is uncomprehensible to understand. I take comfort in knowing that they were sealed in the temple for time and all eternity. Someone may have taken Brad from this life, but they will be a family together in the hereafter. There is life after death and Brad is waiting there for his wife and son, watching over them from Heaven. This is what gives me peace. Evil abounds us and can take away life, but not the founding principles of eternity. They will be together again. That can not be taken from this family.
