Vulture Mine Adventure

The kids had a day off of school and we had family in town. Time for a ROAD TRIP!! We headed to the Vulture Mine to take a tour. We were expecting something along the lines of Lehman Caves..very put together and well....safe. We were greeted by a tour guide who reminded me of a character from a National Lampoon movie. He was eccentric and had wild eyes. My imagination was going crazy with scary stories that this man could be the star of. There were no signs anywhere with rates posted and we ended up having to fork over $70 for this "self-guided tour". He handed us a laminated map, which needed to be returned when the tour was over and told us to follow the gold painted rocks. For $70 we could have at least kept the 1 map....LOL.

We walked around while the wind picked up and started noticing all of the buildings with tin roofs that were falling down and blowing all over. The kids almost fell into a 9 foot "floor vault" hole in the ground of a building that wasn't blocked off. We were all laughing by the time we were done and talking about how crazy our "tour" was. A new "inside joke" for the family. We couldn't quit joking about going back to the mine. At least I got some great photos and a crazy story to scrapbook...LOL.
